Prescription drug coverage through CVS Caremark is included with FirstEnergy’s medical plan. The amount paid for prescriptions depends on the plan chosen and whether prescriptions are filled at a retail pharmacy or through the mail order program.

  • In the Consumer HDHP or Enhanced HDHP plans, prescription drug expenses are subject to the deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximums of the medical plan. Prescription drug charges are applied to the combined deductible before benefits are paid.
  • In the Base PPO plan, prescription drug expenses are subject to a separate deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximums of the prescription drug plan, not the medical plan.

Choose Generic and Save
FirstEnergy’s prescription drug plans are designed to help manage costs and encourage the use of generic drugs when appropriate. If you choose a brand-name drug and there is a generic available, you will pay the highest coinsurance (brand) in addition to the difference in cost between the generic and brand-name drug. However, if there is no generic available, you pay the amount of the primary coinsurance. Additionally, no coverage is provided for prescriptions that are filled when an over-the-counter medication is available.
